ptpgrad: (why!?!?)

Yesterday, I went out to find casual pants for my trip. I found one pair of jeans that fit, then tried to find a pair of chinos or Khakis...pleated front. NO WHERE had them in the entire mall of stores, designer ,or casual. I am disgusted.

Fashion seems to be under a misapprehension that flat front pants are flattering on women. Sorry, on my body, that's bullshit, and what's worse, all the men's sections contained pleated front pants. Like, oh boy, that big monster in my pants needs room to grow, so add those pleats baby, make in big and long cause i am such a man.

And before you go saying, but they DO make women look better, stop. Because on your body they might, but on mine, it's the opposite. I have proven this to disbelieving women and men. My personal physique, with small waist and much larger hips, looks fabulous in pleat fronts...effers just don't like me OR other curvy women. Effers. Effing Effers.

I am disgusted.

And yes, my body has decided to click into Italy time. A week early. It's 10 am there now. I would be heading into my second museum or leaving breakfast for my first museum of the day.

Not enough time, but I am mostly packed and just waiting.

Have you checked Dress Barn? They make fabulous pants. It's the ONLY place I've found pants that are proportioned correctly for larger-hipped women. (YAY US!!!)

Flat front pants *do* look good. On people with flat fronts (and other associated areas). This, however, is a minority of people...

Hmmmm... I totally agree with you on the pleat-front concept; I have the same problem, minus about seven inches of your height, which compounds the issue. I've not been able to find them in ages, either, and a quick websearch only turned up one result, but it looks decent, if a bit pricy:

Good luck finding your pants, and if you do find them, could you let me know where, please?

You and I are in the same boat. Small waist, larger hips. Lee makes a great brand of pants, from jeans to office casual, just for gals with our builds. Go to www.lee.com, use their 'fit finder' to get an idea, and then find a store in your area carrying them. I've had best luck on the west coast with Kohl's and K-mart, strangely enough.

They really do fit, look flattering, and they don't bind up across the abdomen or ride up "elsewhere". They also have some with pleated fronts. Good luck!

I've had okay luck with dress barn, both for bottoms and for button downs that close over the outsized chest, but it's a lot of plastic fabrics. Also, I've not tried them myself but Lane Bryant's(?) new jeans are supposedly pretty good.

Have you tried Land's End or L.L. Bean? I know it's mostly catalog only, but they usually have both flat and pleated fronts. I LOVE Land's End because they custom hem the length for FREE. I love that as I'm petite and really need that petite rise (or the waistband is 2" above the waist), I can get the length at 28 3/4" - everyone's standard petite is 28 inches - great - but as soon as they go in the wash I'm wearing clam diggers. They carry some at Sear's now; take a look.

Yep, mens dress pants. I like the pleated front and HATE hip huggers, so it's the men's dept. for me.

The ones I have are like BDU's or Cavgariccis' that have the straps with buttons on the side to take in the waist. But they are a few years old.

I second the LL Bean recommendation. I have actually given up on buying pants there because I can only ever find the pleated front ones, which look horrid on me. Try the one in Columbia or Tysons. If they don't have your size/style in store you can order it and they'll ship it to your house for free.
