And so it begins...
Jul. 9th, 2005 06:25 pmFirst rehearsal. Well, first, I had to drive to Cherry Hill to meet my family for my dad's birthday brunch. I had told them that I had rehearsal so I had to get back as soon as possible. We all agreed to meet at 10. At exactly 10:02 I pull into the parking lot, thinking I am late. I am called by my mom and I tell her I am on my way in. I get to the table, and my parents and nephews (who stayed overnight with them) were the only ones there. Great. We get a call from my brother and sister in law saying they are running 20 minutes or so late. My sister, I am informed, comes everywhere late. I should have told them 9:30. Sister arrives around 10:25, so we finally order. I split a sandwich with dad (no bread for me) and ordered a big salad with roasted asparagus and flank steak...mmmmm. Soon after Bro and Sis-In-Law arrive from their drive.
At 11:05, I gave my sister money and hugged them all goodbye. I jumped in the car and braved the traffic to site...from South Jersey. There were back ups at the Deleware Memorial Bridge, at the first toll and at another point, because every fricking cop was out so people had to panic and go below the speed limit. I did make it to site at 1:15, in time to see everyone before we began the first official rehearsal.
I met a number of the new people, worked really hard at memorizing character names, and joked with some of the newbies. I hugged many of the old timers. It was good. We did a mini session on introductions. Mr. O'Toole...otherwise known as the Evile Reginald Sharp (don't worry, he is still the evile sherrif, he was just being silly) had some good people in his group, as were some others, butI had to stop my two YAEs before his innocent comment thanking her for pleasuring him (by letting him kiss her hand) got out of hand. I was accused of teaching them Renaissance porn. Especially, when she told him he was allowed to kiss her hand. I swear that I didn't turn Columbina on at all, but the spirit seems to have traveled to the new girl.
Lastly, we broke out and the auditions for Fight Corps began. There were about 12 of us auditioning. We ran a rapier fight, a broadsword fight, and a fisticuffs/quarterstaff fight. I screwed up the quarterstaff fight a bit, but I think I was targeting the points correctly for the three fights. I learned well from Lelio. I even found myself coaching some of the fight moves to my partners...cause, if your partner doesn't look good, you don't look good. I got a bit lightheaded after the first fight, but some sports drink from a co-auditioner got me back to normal. I hadn't eaten since 11 am and really needed the salt and water. For being as out of shape as I have been with all my injuries this year, I think I held up ok. I really wanted more stretching before we fought though. We will find out if we made it later this week. Tomorrow is my first Lying Valet rehearsal...oh, yeah, guess I should say that...
Officially this year I will be bringing back:
1. The Stupina Girlie Girl Show (with Random Alternating Readers TM)
2. The Italian Wedding (with Lelio, ya know, you all remember him)
I will also be:
1. Performing in a smaller role in the Lying Valet
2. Directing the Lost Princess
and I will find out later this week about the rest. I am going to be very busy this year, but I like that.
I am so very excited. It's going to be an amazing season.

Date: 2005-07-10 03:55 am (UTC)I suspect I'll be hunting around to do things in betwen jousts and in the mornings. I'm special contract this year and officially not required to do anything but ride herd on the cheerleaders. (Unless I also get in fight corps, in which case I'll also be helping at the tent.)

Oh... and btw, if you need to do that awful run again, on a towards the beach day head (kinda) towards Dover, and back over towards the Bay on the east side. There's a major (smallish, but high speed) road that goes down along that side of the Bay that doesn't get as much use... then back over the Bay Bridge and you're in Annapolis against the traffic. *g* Worked well the few times I've had to pick up Joe at work before heading north on Thanksgiving Weekends, too. (longer, but faster on high-traffic days)

And I know the Rt. 301/50 way, used to take it when I lived in SP. But it normally is longer and I was really tight for time.
