ca_amethyst1. Turning the tables on you ... do you have a favorite year at MDRF?
I’ve been thinking about this a while. I think it has to be my third year as a performer. It was the second for Columbina and Teatro, and it was the first for Stupina on the street. It was the year that AFR really got moving with the Gods and Goddesses, etc, and with that first MDRF invasion, I started friendships with some amazing people. Even Elf came to MDRF that year. Xan and I ran the invasion of 110 people, and we all took over one restaurant (house of hunan) where Bethany bit the back of my leg and made me buckle. I met EricTQ, Kalani, the Salims, was actually dating someone for once, had GREAT street play, and TONS of fun. Teatro was on the Globe still, and the invasion weekend, the audience was HUGE, the entire otters group came to the show. Met James Echols, Shadow, just an amazing year. It was all still new. Only thing I wasn’t doing was the romance wars…but more on that later.
2. You have just been gifted with three months of travel, all expenses
paid. Where are you going?
Sadly, except for one day in Canada, I have NEVER traveled out side this country…ALL OVER this country, but only in the contiguous US.
Outside here? ITALY, ITALY, did I mention ITALY. I want to see Venice (sit in the piazza), Bergamo, Florence, Sicily,Tuscany, and Rome. Before I go there, though, I want a stop in New Foundland to see the water and nature. Then, I want to go to France and see Paris and the Louvre, to the Netherlands for chocolate and Vermier, to Greece for the religion and history, England for the theater and history (need to see the Globe and Stratford –upon-Avon), and maybe Spain. Need to try fondue in Switzerland (even if it’s warm out). A very quick stop to the Ukraine to find out if the town Zamusht still exists…that is where my grandfather was from. Then off to Indonesia and Bali to study theater and see the arts. From there to Australia to see Syndey and find out what my old roommate has been raving about, and a brief stop to either New Zealand or Hong Kong to get a suit made (real silk and they sew to fit…and it’s inexpensive). Back to the mainland via Hawaii to see not only the popular islands, but Hawaii itself and the grandeur of the nature. Then briefly down to Mexico, but not in the touristy spots, if that is possible and safe, then back to the US and a brief stop in Disneyland, then Disney World, then home. Whew, hope I can do that in 3 months.
3. I've been told you are a champion "Romance War" player. What hit are
you most proud of?
Hrm, there are so many that I liked, but the one that I am MOST proud of, didn’t cost me a dime. I had been hitting this guy with the different senses. This week was hearing. All day long, he would be approached from behind by a woman who would say "my lord, close your eyes" and he would (he was good that way). Then she would say something like… "My heart sings for you" and she would sing, or "You pull the strings of my heart" and Cyd played mingulay boat song for him, or "I weep without you" and she wept in his ear, or "I want you" and the moans of heightened passion resounded in his ear alone, or My heart smiles for you" and she laughed, or, and this one was my personal favorite "I admire you" and he was surrounded by the sound of about 8 pairs of wenches hands applauding him" When each sound was done, the lady would say "my lord, in five seconds, you may open your eyes." When he did, the lady (or ladies) were no where to be found…at all…every. He never knew where it would come from next. I was nearby when the wenches applauded him, out with Baby Stupina, and I saw him respond…he was an actor, and he puffed like a poppin jay when they started. After the lady told him to open his eyes in five seconds, the ladies scattered. Dawntreader was one of them. He looked around COMPLETELY confused trying to figure out how hit happened. There was no touch, no smells, no sights, no tastes, just his ears were teased and tormented, and treated all day long. Not a dime. . Even though Darcy never made it to him (she was the singer), it was ok. I have had some other good ones, but nothing compares to that one for me
4. What are your top three goals to accomplish in the next 5 years?
1. Get Teatro performing at more that our standard two festivals, even if it means that Stupina’s show hits the road alone. See at least 5 new faires I have not been to before (Scarby is going next year).
2.Go to Europe (travel outside the US) before my passport runs out! Hopefully , Italy, but I would settle for somewhere in Great Britain. I have the passport, I just haven’t had the money or the person to go with to make it happen. I don’t think I would feel safe going alone (first time at least).
3.Allow myself to be open enough to discover the right man for me when he comes along…I realize that he might not come by in the next five years, but I want my life settled enough that if he arrives, I will be ready for him.
5. If you only had an hour to gather a car load of your most valued
possessions, what would you take?
I was thinking of this when everything was happening in your part of the world. Cats first, and a litter box and food for them. Stupina and as many masks that I have made I can get into a bag, baby stupina, one good Columbina costume, tapes of my shows since that is the only record of many of them, and I can’t take the computer…too much time, and no back ups. Book of notes on the shows (over 8 years old now) and my dellarte graduation certificate and class photo. Deed to the house, passport, birth certificate, mortgage stuff, all in the same drawer. One suitcase of clothes with my multicolored pants and skirt (sorry, Desmond), underwear (those bras are expensive), some good work clothes and the one pair of shoes I use. My diamond anniversary band, my other precious jewelry (there’s not much), probably about 20 of my cds, my high school, college and other MDRF shows on tape. As many of my 30 some photo albums I could pack. The one bottle of Dellarte wine (tribute to Carlo and irreplaceable), the chateau benoit pinot noir, my stupina shotglass, my Columbina box of accoutremont. Beyond that, whatever I had time and space to squeeze in (like props and the henkle knives, and the great dishes) but those things above, I would run to like a bat out of hell to get.
