Sorry for the the generic blog post, but this was the fastest way I knew to get this important request out to all of you.
I am writing to you to ask for your help. I am participating in the Great Human Race on March 27, 2010 in Durham, NC. The race is a 3K walk/run that raises awareness and funds for charities in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. I walked in it last year and this year I will be participating again as part of a Team made up of members from the company I work for, New Beginnings Management, Inc., on behalf of The Arc of Durham County.
You may have heard The Arc mentioned in the news lately (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/03/AR2010020303001.html?wpisrc=nl_politics or on TV at
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/video/view-examines-the-word-retarded-9737608). The Arc is a national organization that helps people with developmental disabilites live fuller and richer lives in society and helps their families by providing essential services. The Arc of Durham County is a smaller chapter of The Arc that I have been working with for the past 2 years.
I am asking that you make a donation to support me as I walk for them. They are in desparate need of help. Because of drastic funding cuts, they have had to drop some of their most important programs and half of their staff. The donation can be as small as $5 or as large as $100 or more. Anything you can offer to help replace the lost funding would be appreciated.
I can accept donations two ways:
1. Mail a check or payment to me directly for your donation before March 15. The checks can be made out to "The Arc of Durham County" and are tax deductible. Contact me offline if you need that info.
2. Donate online through the our Team website on Active.com: http://www.active.com/donate/ghr2010/newbegin_arcdc. This site is being managed by the organizers of The Great Human Race so that people can make donations with a credit card. We can accept Visa, Master Card or American Express.
