Never say it's all ok too early
Mar. 24th, 2005 12:39 amso...I am healthy, I am fine...and I decide to have our last physical rehearsal. We go to do the acro flip that we just added, I think I get the cue from him, so I start to go...he didn't give it and I landed on the warehouse floor...well, the top of my skull landed on the concrete. Ironically, we finished the move...and I IMMEDIATELY got down and laid down. After running the rest of the lines as I am prone, I call a friend to get a recommendation on whether he thinks I need urgent care or a hospital. Hospital is the recommendation. I cal my doctor's office to get the approval (joy of HMO) and they are all for it. Elvislob drives me to the hospital in my car, cause I can't seem to turn my head without pain. They put me in a neck brace just in case, pretty quickly. Then we wait for a few hours. I go in, and we wait for a few hours. I feel the top of my head, even with ice on it, there feels like 1/4 inch of fluid up there. We call renfestgeek, who was in town, and I tell him what is going on. He, Sandy and the baby all finish dinner with K and M and head over to the hospital. He comes in and he and elvis make car arrangements.
As they go off, they take me in for the xrays and the cat scan. I chat with all the doctors/xrayer's etc. I am making everyone laugh, as wel as myself. I almost fall asleep waiting to go in for the cat scan. Luckily, I wasn't shot through with iodine, cause that would suck (allergies and all). I retouch my head and it is not as squish as before. When I get back to the room, Elvis is there waiting for me napping. We chat more while we wait. Sandy comes in to say hi and make sure I am ok, then she leaves and Renfestgeek takes her place and she takes care of the baby. The doctor comes in and tells me that there is no fracture, no blood, it's just a bad bruise/sprain. Thank the gods!
This weekend will be interesting though. I will care for my neck alot to make sure it is as good as possible for the show, but I might not be gung ho. We had already started planning jokes for if the neck brace had to stay on. Luckily, we have been told that it heals better without it, but I will miss the jokes. They were funny.
See you all there...but hug Stupina gently...she will need the TLC.
