My friend is looking for an Apt.

"As to the apt. I would like DC or close to metro train ( preferably red). As big as possible for around $1200 and with as many utilities covered as possible. You know the dream place on a dime. I have a car so I would like parking. I have a bird. "

It better be all that, because lemme tell ya -- Ft. Totten is not a pretty neighborhood. It was when I spent the first six years of my life there (Madison St. and Riggs Rd.), but not no more....

I GREW UP around that neighborhood as well. It got a lot worse when the metro came through..watch your back!

Amend as necessary, and refer to the Metro web page to get approximate travel distances from stations, etc.

The Silver Spring / Glenmont end of the Red Line has some safe, nice buildings. Avoid Wayne Avenue and Paint Branch, stay with Georgia Ave. or Colesville Rd.
